The New York Times has gone too far. Never mind their now totally debunked three-year insistence that Donald Trump’s campaign for President colluded with Russian intelligence. Never mind their insistence that the information on Hunter Biden’s laptop was “Russian Disinformation”. Never mind their insistence that the COVID-19 vaccination was both safe and effective… Now they are saying that Senator-elect John Fetterman is one of the 91 “Most Stylish People in America”.
Fetterman is best known for appearing throughout his campaign wearing cargo shorts and a hoodie. I would describe this as slovenly rather than stylish. To his credit, Fetterman showed up for orientation wearing the suit jacket and necktie that Senate rules require him to wear on the Senate floor. When Ronald Reagan was President, he famously would never remove his suit jacket and work in shirt sleeves in the Oval Office. Reagan took this view based on his respect for the institution and the historical significance of both the Oval Office and the White House, for our 40th President it was a matter of decorum.
What Senator-elect Fetterman chooses to wear in his off hours, is of course, totally up to him. I would suggest that when engaged in his official duties however, that he dresses with the dignity and the proper etiquette of a United States Senator. The way you dress is how you present yourself to the world.
Clearly, the voters of Pennsylvania didn’t care about how Fetterman dressed during the campaign but the New York Times should know better than to say that dressing as a 13-year old skateboarder is “stylish.”
Great post I could not agree more.
